I am a big fan of stopping… and breathing… allowing your heart rate to slow down a bit… relaxing your shoulders… softening your brow and jaw… and again, breathing.
There is so much going on all around us all the time. There’s always something more to do. There’s always someone else to tend to. There’s always some place you need to go next. But do you ever pause and rest and allow yourself to simply be? To be present in the moment? To allow the fears and worries of tomorrow to wash away, even just for a time?
It’s so important to give your body and your mind and your spirit the time and space to rest and heal.
I’ve gotten better at this, I think. Sometimes, in the rush of the moment, I wonder if I really have, but truthfully, I know I am in a better place in my life than I have ever been. Most mornings (when I’m not on the road), I get to wake up next to the ocean, in a beautiful home, with the peaceful sound of the waves rolling up the beach. It’s a place full of calm – that’s what I have created it to be. It’s a place full of happy – that’s what I’ve created it to be.
We each get to create and define where we live, how we live, what energy we live in.
What energy are you creating in your own space? Are you fostering an energy of franticness, of worry, of scarcity? Or are you creating a space of peace, calm, excitement, joy, happiness – whatever emotions and energy are pleasing to YOU?
After all, you and I and all of us, we each have dominion over all things – that means, over our attitude, over our behavior, over our thoughts, over our actions, over our emotions, over our energy… all of it, we have dominion over all things.
The bad news is, you have created everything in your life up until now – so if you don’t like it, well, guess what? You’re responsible!
The GOOD news is, you have created everything in your life up until now, and from this moment forward. And just like you can change the radio frequency that you dial into with just the turn of a knob, so you too can change the energy frequency of your own life… just like THAT! You can stop acting like a victim, and start behaving like the empowered, resourced human being that you are.
I will admit, it’s easier said than done. It’s simple to do, but it’s not always easy. It takes focus and attention. It takes the will and the desire to do it. Sometimes – a lot of the time probably – it’s easier to stay in that comfort zone of stress, fear, worry, and anxiety, rather than make the deliberate, intentional choice to alter your mindset and your thoughts, to slow your thinking and to take a step back and to decide exactly what you want to feel and experience in any given moment. It doesn’t make sense that we would choose those negative feelings and emotions, but if that’s what our default setting is, then that’s what we’re going to default to if we don’t make an intentional choice otherwise.
I think a lot of people, and I speak for myself as well, go through phases in their lives where it’s their habit to feel anxious and worried and stressed. It’s their default setting. Is it your default setting? Take a moment and reflect and think on this. What is your default setting?
You see, we all get to reprogram our default however we want it to be, regardless of how we’ve been programmed up until now. So, what’s your default reaction when things don’t go how you planned them to go? What’s your default response when someone does something that bothers you or hurts you? What’s your default tendency when you’re thinking about the future and what might or might not happen… do you think about a future positive or a future negative?
Let this message serve as an encouragement to you that no matter what you’ve been through, no matter how you’ve been programmed up to this point, no matter what opinions other people hold about you, no matter what your default is right now, you have within you the power and the resources and the skills and the ability to change it to whatever it is that you want it to be.
Do you want to wake up feeling anxious and stressed about the day? Or do you want to wake up feeling calm and excited?
Do you want to open your mailbox with the feeling of dread that you’re going to get another bill that you can’t afford? Or do you want to take the proactive stance of positive expectancy, that everything is coming together exactly as it should, that you’re okay and everything’s going to be okay?
So, as we close out this message, just take a moment, and stop and breathe and relax and remind yourself that you are exactly where you need to be in your life right now, and you are perfectly positioned to take the next steps forward in your growth. We are each on our own soul’s journey. None of us has the right to compare our journey to someone else’s, or vice-versa. Rest in that truth, that you’re okay… and it’s okay. And even when you cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel, then enter into this community of like-minded individuals, here at Empowerment Mentoring, who are here to support you and hold you up and encourage you to keep taking that next step forward.
